Press Release: She's the Eldest to World Premiere at deadCenter Film Festival
Updated: Apr 23
“She’s the Eldest” has been announced as an official selection at Oklahoma City’s deadCenter Film Festival where the film will make its world premiere. Filmmaker Cate Jones makes her feature directorial debut with her homegrown indie drama featuring an all Oklahoma cast and crew. As deadCenter’s 20th annual film festival makes the transition to an online experience due to COVID-19, “She’s the Eldest” will be screened online at the festival June 11 - 21. DeadCenter’s online experience will celebrate filmmakers and the art of film with two full weeks of online features, shorts, and virtual films. Written and directed by Jones, “She’s the Eldest” is equal parts offbeat comedy and family drama. Starring Mary Buss (Climate of the Hunter, Strike Dear Mistress, and Cure His Heart), indie film auteur Mickey Reece and Jones, the film follows three eccentric siblings who return to their childhood home to reconnect but end up digging up the past of their parents' mysterious disappearances.
"The film explores a woman's need for her own creative outlet, motherhood, and our tendency to sacrifice ourselves to nurture others,” Jones said. “It’s written and directed from a female perspective.”
“It was made with love by all local Oklahoma cast and crew. We somehow had a lot of luck on our side. It turned out the movie I set out to make, but even more funny because of the brilliant cast.”
Jones is known for her performances in front of the camera for previous deadCenter selections including her award-winning portrayal of Priscilla Presley in Mickey Reece’s Alien (deadCenter 2017 “Best Oklahoma Feature Film”) as well as performances in The Jurassic Games and Arrows of Outrageous Fortune. She’s the Eldest executive producer, star, and prolific filmmaker Mickey Reece also recently wrapped his religious horror film Agnes starring Molly C. Quinn. “She’s the Eldest” is produced by Alex Palmer (Agnes, Iké Boys), Holli Taylor, and Kelley Gann, in association with Freestyle Creative and Betmar-Heliand Productions.
